I was sitting across from my sweet Elle, eating lunch yesterday, with a little glass vase of purple flowers in the middle of the table, when a lonely petal softly coasted down, leaving the rest of the flowers behind. I mentioned it briefly, but we just kept chatting and eating. As I was clearing the table and moved the vase, more flowers began to fall.
I stopped to look at the beautiful, deep purple flowers stretching out from their crisp, green stems. And as I gazed at the petals that began to accumulate on my table, I thought about grace. I thought about love. And I thought about God. My God. My God who sees all and knows all. My God who knows my life and my heart and who loves me anyway.
“The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our (my) God stands forever”
Isaiah 40:8
You guys, we’re the grass. And we’re the flowers. We screw up. We fall and we fail. We make mistakes. We endure hard times. Life gets tough. But, God is constant. He is everlasting. He stands forever, with grace and mercy and love.

“The Lord is the everlasting God,
the Creator of the ends of the earth.
He will not grow tired or weary,
and his understanding no one can fathom.
He gives strength to the weary
and increases the power of the weak.
Even youths grow tired and weary,
and young men stumble and fall;
but those who hope in the Lord
will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles;
they will run and not grow weary,
they will walk and not be faint.”
Isaiah 40:28-31
“Trust steadily in God, hope unswervingly, love extravagantly. And the best of the three is love.”
1 Corinthians 13:13, MSG
