Okay, so I’m typically the Valentine’s day heart-shaped pancake kind of mom. But, this year, I decided to do something a little different. Homemade Pop Tarts!

They’re not a frequent fare around here, so when I make them, they go fast. Really fast. Usually when I make these scrumptious treats, I use blueberries for the filling. However, we’ve been snowed in all week, with no extra trips to the grocery store, so blueberries weren’t an option. Conveniently, my oldest is crazy about Nutella lately, so that was a no-brainer.

I decided to forego my usual rectangle shape, and get all festive and such with a heart-shaped cookie cutter. My cookie cutter is kind of small, so these ended up being bite-sized treats instead of the typical pop tart proportions. I followed this recipe and actually halved it. Even with halving the recipe, I still ended up with 30 cute little hearty treats. I filled each heart with about half a teaspoon of Nutella and sealed the edges together just like I would with the rectangle tarts. And this isn’t necessary, it’s just an extra little oomph of yum, but…ICING. I just mixed up some powdered sugar and milk to a good consistency, then spooned it over the pop tarts right after I took them out of the oven. Perfection.

I think it’s safe to say that these will be gone by morning. I mean, my plate didn’t last very long.

Hug your loved ones tight. Make sure they hear those three sweet words that make us all feel safe and warm. Today and Everyday. Happy Valentine’s Day.
